Starting Thursday, Feb.1st at 7:00 p.m., in Brantl Hall in Dickson Hall, the student body of MSU and the general public will be treated to a menu of Italian American films topped off by the chance to speak directly to the filmmakers in informal Q&A sessions. The films range from an Italian language feature film entitled Tanabèss by Luisa Pretolani (Feb. 1), two documentaries by Cara De Vito and Kym Ragusa on the figure of the woman in Italian American culture (Feb. 22), the famous independent filmmaker Nancy Savoca (The 24-Hour Woman and If These Walls Could Talk) presenting her reknowned Household Saints (Mar.1), a lecture by Dr. Fred Gardaphè from SUNY Stony Brook on understanding the figure of the gangster in Italian American films (Mar. 15), and finishes off with the Italian American Short Film Night, by Marco Ricci, a rare opportunity to see short films that represent new visions of the Italian American experience. All film screenings are in Brantl Hall, begin at 7:00 p.m., and are free.
