| What we do: | ||
| † |
The Campus Mediation Center is designed to handle interpersonal disputes between two or more people. Examples include conflicts between roommates, hall mates, boyfriends and girlfriends (both current and former), members of councils or working committees, residence staff members, and others. |
|
| † |
The content of the disputes will vary, although some common concerns will be noise levels, study habits, phone and utility bills, borrowed or broken items, relationship problems and misunderstandings, work-related conflicts, name calling, and minor forms of harassment. |
|
| † |
Campus Mediation Center will provide students who are in conflict with neutral co-mediators selected by the faculty advisor. Together they facilitate a problem-solving process in which the parties themselves define the issues and work toward the creation of a mutually agreeable resolution. If the parties reach an agreement, it is usually formalized and put into written form. The process typically takes 1-2 hours, but will vary depending on the case. Sessions can be scheduled during the day or evening, to meet the particular needs of the individuals involved. The process is private and confidential. |

Mediators do not decide who is right or wrong, but will assist the parties in using a problem-solving process to reach their own agreement. |
