Theme of Religion in _Matigari_, by Ngugi wa Th'iongo

     Please discuss THREE passages in which the theme of religion is
important. Make sure that none of these passages is longer than 1/2
page in length, though, so you can discuss each one in detail.

     Please DO NOT SUMMARIZE THE PASSAGES. Instead, "analyze" them. By
"analyze", I mean such things as:

     	* discussing the larger issues being raised in the passage
about the role of religion in Kenya, according to the novel;
	* looking at the actual wording, the language. Is it
realistic? or, perhaps, sarcastic? ironic? a lampoon?

     	If you are not sure of what these terms mean, please look them
up in a dictionary.

     	* explaining the relationship of the passage in question to
the rest of the novel, or to other significant passsages;
	* examining any "symbolism", or parallels with, for example,
Bible stories. But, if you do this, don't just note that these things
are there, but think, and write, about WHY they are there.

     In general, "analysis" means: what is the function of this
passage in the novel?

     Please email to your group, and to me. Length: 300 words.
