         ASSIGNMENT ON JEFFREY RACE, _WAR COMES TO LONG AN_

     These few pages give some of the main ideas of Race's analysis.
They deal with the main economic question of the war -- the land
question.

     Please read the section carefully. Then write about 300 words on
what "Chan", the defector from the North Vietnamese army, has to say
about the question of land and the peasantry.
