American Economic Imperialism in Vietnam?

     Please reread the materials assigned for last class. Please give
special attention to the second and third passages, Parenti: "The Cost of Empire", and
Creasy, Economics of Imperialism".

     Now, please read and print out the short piece, 
here,with quotations about U.S. economic
motives in Vietnam.

     Write 300 words about what YOU think about this subject?
Who benefits from imperialism? who is harmed? what are its motives?
what are the implications for the belief that the U.S. is a
"democracy"? for the notion of "patriotism" and "nationhood", and "the
national interest"? 

     Be sure to tell what YOU think, and not to repeat what the
assigned readings say, or what you think I (Furr) think.
